DIY: Deep Conditioning Treatment.

For those of us addicted to hair dye, blow drying, straighteners and curling tongs, we know all too well the effects those things can have on our hair. So its time to fight the frizz and give your hair a little treat by indulging in a deep conditioning treatment.

Pre-treatment
I can not stress enough how important it is to protect your hair from heat, it takes 10 seconds to spray some heat protecting spray through your hair before stying it. I use TRESemme Heat Defense Styling Spray at £4.99 it's a big bottle and a little goes a long way so its definitely worth it.

The Products
There are so many products when it comes to deep conditioning and it can all be a little overwhelming. If you are unsure on what products to use then you can always use your normal conditioner. Here are a few products specifically for deep conditioning that i have used and know works well.

1) Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Re constructor £4.69 from boots
2) Tigi high-def curls shampoo and conditioner (for my curly girlie's) £9.49 from feelunique.com
3) L'Oreal Elvive Nutri-Gloss Conditioner £3.75 from boots

For a more natural approach you can mash up 2 Bananas and mix with a tiny bit of milk or organic natural Greek yogurt until you get a conditioner like consistency (yes it does actually work)

The Treatment

Step 1 - Wash your hair with your usual shampoo, rinse and repeat. Towel dry but do not rub you hair! This will damage you hair and encourage split ends. Instead hang your head upside down and wrap your towel around it patting it dry.

Step 2 - Once your hair is about 70% dry put in your conditioner, the amount will vary depending on how damaged your hair is. Make sure to concentrate on smoothing your product through the ends of your hair.

Step 3 - Run a wide toothed comb (not a brush!) through your hair, this will get rid of any knots and tangles and help smooth out your hair and spread the conditioner evenly.

Step 4 - This may sound a little silly but wrap your hair up in cling film and then wrap in a towel. This keeps you hair warm and lets the conditioner soak in properly. In salons most of the time the stylist will put you under a heater while you wait but this will give you the same effect.

Step 5 - Relax and wait! The length of time you wait will depend on the condition of you hair, mine is pretty bad so i like to wait for around an hour but you can adjust it to what ever time you like.

Step 6 - Unwrap your hair and rinse, get the products out with warm water but give your hair a quick blast with cold water afterwards, this will help close the cuticles and add lots of shine to your luscious locks! When rinsing rub your scalp vigorously with your fingertips, this creates friction on your scalp so it produces more natural oils to keep your hair looking great.

Step 7 - Towel dry your hair the same as in step 1 and once it is about 70% dry leave the rest to air dry naturally, style however you wish (remember to use a protective spray if you're styling with heat) and enjoy your new, smooth, silky, shiny locks!

I hope this has helped you guys out, it works so well for me i simply couldn't not share it! You can don't have to follow my exact routine so feel free to adapt it to anyway you wish. Oh! And don't forget to comment and let me know how you get on!

Take care guys! xx

Product Review: LUSH Oatifix FreshFaceMask

Ladies... for years i have searched for a face mask that
1) My uber sensitive skin doesn't react badly to (we're talking red splodges and soreness)
2) Exfoliates away dry patches of skin
and
3) Nourishes my skin and makes it feel silky smooth

And just as i was about to give up the search i found this baby! It is absolutely, undoubtedly the most incredible face mask i have ever tried! Here's my view!

First off it looks (and smells) like you could eat it! When you put it on your skin it doesn't dry out and crack like clay based masks. Its made with Oats and almonds to calm your skin and exfoliate away dryness, and Bananas and Illipe butter (that's a type of nut found in Southeast Asia if you were wondering) so soothe and reduce redness. It also contains vanilla making the smell even more incredibly sweet but not too overpowering.

The best thing about it is that IT WORKS! Tried and tested by yours truly, it is simple to apply and wash off, when you do wash it off you don't loose the moisturised feeling it gives your skin.

At £5.25 its reasonably priced but unfortunately does have an expiry date (usually within 3 weeks of purchase) as all the ingredients used are fresh. It should also be kept refrigerated in order for it to stay fresh. I would use it once every 3 days and most definitely at night as the smell is so sweet and dreamy. But depending on your skin you may choose to use it more frequently or less often. LUSH also dont test any of their ingrediants or products on animals!

The best part is that once you have used it all up wash out your pot and keep it safe! Once you have 5 black pots (not just from face mask but from other products too) you can take them back to LUSH and get a free face mask as a thank you for recycling your pots!

I give this product 5/5 because for me there is just no faulting it!

If you have used this or any of the other LUSH face masks then comment below and let me know what you think! And if you are still unsure on weather to buy it or not, the lovely ladies at lush will usually give you a little sample pot free if you ask them very nicely!

Take care guys! xx

Healthy breakfast options

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! If you skip breakfast you're more likely to go off track and pick at things, the calories soon mount up!

So here are a list of healthy break fast options, tried and tested by myself. They definitely keep me full until lunch time!

Option 1 - Porridge

It sounds simple, but it works! And it definitely doesn't have to be boring! I make mine with semi skimmed milk and then mix in a low calorie sugar substitute and a table spoon of low sugar jam but you don't have to stop there! Chop up as much fruit as you like - raisins, sultanas, a banana or apple and at seeds or nuts if you like a bit of a crunch to it! - to bulk it up and add extra flavor.

Options 2 - Poached egg on toast with creamy mushrooms

Using brown or granary bread - two slices - (i love the kind with the seeds on top) to make the toast and a low fat spread is the healthier option and keeps you full for longer. The poached eggs (2) provide you with a good amount of protein. And the creamy mushrooms count as one of your 5 a day and provides you with calcium (the recipe for creamy mushrooms on toast will be posted soon).

Option 3 - mixed cereals, fruit and nuts.

It sounds boring but it doesn't have to be! Mix a hand full of muesli (i like the low sugar type with extra fruit in it) and a hand full of of bran flakes, both of these help your body release energy slowly and i find a handful is useful when cutting down portion sizes. Pour over skimmed or semi skimmed milk (full fat is not a good idea) and top with a few nuts (i like walnuts or cashews) and any fruit you fancy like a banana or apple.

Option 4 - boiled egg and fruit salad

Boil one egg for 3 - 5 minutes depending on if u want it soft or hard. Have with one slice of granary toast with low fat spread. That's your protein and fiber sorted! Next have mixed fruit (as much as you like) like apple, grapes, orange segments, grapefruit pieces and kiwi and pour on some organic low fat Greek yogurt and you're ready for round two! I recon that counts as at least 3 portions of fruit!

These are just a few things i have found both yummy and really filling! So enjoy. You can vary them in any way you like, you definitely don't have to do exactly what I've written! Don't be afraid to put your own twist on things. Just remember, make sensible healthy choices!

Take care guys xx

A Healthy Lifestyle

We all know that there are things we can to improve our overall health. From changing what we eat and even when we eat it, to the activities we do and the way we think.

I'm on a mission, a full on lifestyle change is in order for me and i thought it would be a good idea to put all my thoughts and ideas on here to motivate not only myself but others too! Doing it with someone always helps keep you on track, and if you do go off track then there is always someone there to pull you back up when you fall.

So I'll begin with the basics that i have found useful!

  • Small changes - It's important to make small changes to begin with, after all its a lifestyle change, not a diet.
  • Set goals - But don't be hard on yourself if you don't reach them in time! Its not the end of the world after all!
  • Don't deprive yourself - Life is for living! If you go out for a meal and you want desert afterwards, then go for it! Its not like you're eating chocolate cake every night of the week. Be smart about the choices you make.
  • Variety - Eating the same thing every day/week is going to get boring, and if you get bored your going to get off track because you will crave other things.
Remembering these basic steps has helped me to keep on track over the past couple of weeks. I went of track for one night of poker with friends where lots of beer and pizza was involved...but when i woke up the next day, after recovering from a well deserved hangover, i got back on it!

So if your are interested in reading more keep an eye out for more ''healthy lifestyle'' blogs that are going to include things like recipe's and exercise routines as well as hints and tips. And don't forget to leave comments!I'm no professional but i will do my best answer any questions you guys have.

Thorntons Ice Cream

OK so on Tuesday my lovely friend Natalie saved us both from boredom and we mini road tripped it to Merry Hill (avoiding ''that'' island and parking :p) and while we were up there, after very little persuasion from Nat, for the first time ever i had a Thorntons ice cream....OHH MY GOSH! It was so unbelievably amazing...£2.49 for a cone (or tub) with two scoops of any of their ice creams (i cant find a list of the flavours online...but i intend to try every one of them)  a chocolate stick, hot sauce from the chocolate fountain and a topping!

I tried out the Mint choc chip and the rocky road with a while and milk chocolate topping, and it was lush! I seriously recommend giving yourself a little treat the next time you're in Thorntons. Its great value for money and that sugar is guaranteed to keep you're shopping energy levels up for the rest of the day!
